BOOK-SIGNING SCHEDULED FOR TWO NEW CIVIL WAR BOOKS;
ONE MAKING NATIONAL DEBUT

BLACKSBURG, Oct. 9, 2002 -- James I. Robertson Jr., Alumni Distinguished Professor of History at Virginia Tech and executive director of the university's Virginia Center for Civil War Studies, will sign his two newest books--Stonewall Jackson's Book of Maxims and Gods and Generals--on Saturday, October 19, at Volume Two Bookstore in Blacksburg. Hours are 8 a.m.-noon and 5-7 p.m.

Robertson collaborated with Mort Künstler, internationally noted Civil War artist, on Gods and Generals, which will make its national debut at the booksigning. The book was commissioned by Warner Brothers as a companion piece to its movie of the same name. Robertson served as historical consultant to the movie, which is scheduled for release in February 2003.

Robertson's other book, Stonewall Jackson's Book of Maxims, is based on an actual notebook kept by the famous Civil War general. The notebook was lost after Jackson's death in 1863 and was uncovered by Robertson more than 120 years later while he was examining other materials in the Davis Collection of Civil War manuscripts at Tulane University.
